Abstract
The study of North American Tiphiinae (which are beneficial as parasites of white grubs) has been handicapped for many years because the types of many of the species described were deposited in collections in Europe where they have not been critically studied since they were originally described. Unfortunately, in the original descriptions few characters were used which are valuable in identifying species today. This situation applies generally to species described before 1918.
