Abstract

Explosive pollination mechanism is one of the floral mechanisms that ensures successful pollination upon tripping by pollinating agents. The mechanism is found in several plant families, but widely frequented in Lamiaceae, Fabaceae, Loranthaceae, Rhizophoraceae and Onagraceae . The triggering agents of the explosive pollination mechanism in different families include flies, bees, butternies, birds, bats and wind. The explosion of the pollination mechanism occurs by the violent movement of anthers/stamens style alone or together with restraining petals. The mechanism is basical in flag-blossoms and functional by stcrnotribie pollinators . The floral configuration in other explosive flowers varies but perfectly aligned for explosion. The explosive syndrome has been treated to be an adaptation for definite self and/or cross-pollination when triggered by the perfect pollinator(s).
