Abstract

The study of the bumblebee fauna of Yaroslav Goubernia is closely connected in its main aspects with the names of two local workers in the field of entomology, A. I. Yakovlev, N. R. Kokuev, by their making some collections of material arranged by me at that time. 1) These collections, tho not great, are well selected, proving adequate and completely characterizing zoogeographically the local bumblebee fauna. 2) A. I. Yakovlev collected at his estate near the village Berditzina, lying 20 versts (about 3 mi.) S.E. of Yaroslav, and N. R. Kokuev has been collected bumblebees in the nearby environs of the above named city. The environs of village Berditzina "belong to the number of localities most thoroughly and basically investigated in an entomological way in all Russia, thanks to the labors of many years 3) of Alexander Ivanovitch. I am pleased to note that bumblebees are not an exception in this respect (i.e. the thorough basic investigation). It is also fitting to emphasize especially the endeavors of A. I. Yakovlev in the work of this investigation. All the bumblebees collected are accompanied by accounts of the plants on which they were caught, which makes this collection of an exceptional value and scientific interest. Nikita Rafalovitch evidently was more interested in the systematic side of his collection of insects, especially of the hymenoptera.
