Abstract
The survival of honey bees, APIS MELLIFERA L., caged without food or water was measured. When forager were caught as the returned to the colony, these lived longer in cages than did foragers caught departing. Also, nurse bees lived longer than foragers. Smoking bees before they were caught (which causes them to engorge) increased the time they survived without food or water.
