Abstract
Hymenopterists have almost universally employed the generic name Bombus, except that since 1914 most American_ authors have adopted the name Bremus Panzer-Jurine, 1801 (lntelligenzblatt der Literatur-Zeitung, Erlangen : 160-165, i.e. the " Erlangen List"). In view of the extensive literature associated with the name Bombus, we are of the opinion that the adoption of the name Bremus would cause more confusion than uniformity. We are of the opinion that in the exercise of the plenary power conferred on them by the International Zoological Congress, the International Com-mission on Zoological Nomenclature should as soon as possible take the steps laid down by the Congress for the promulgation of an Opinion to the following effect.
