Abstract

In the entomological part of Duperrey's work 1), Guerin-Meneville has introduced many generic and specific names, which have often been incorrectly dated and wrongly used by subsequent authors. I have shown (1918, Bull. American Mus. Nat. Hist., XXXIX, pp. 244-245) that the name Ropalidia Guerin-Meneville was first published in 1831, and should be correctly used for the social wasps generally called Icaria H. de Saussure. Since several other similar cases are involved, I have attempted to trace the date of publication of the names in Hymenoptera and Diptera.
