Abstract

New data on the taxonomy, corology, and biology of Ptinus (Gynopterus) pyrenaeus Pie (Coleoptera, Ptinidae). In this study the synonymy of Ptinus martinezi (Escalera) and Ptinus pyrenaeus Pie is proposed. Toe area of distribution is expanded with new records from the southem slope of the Pyrenees, the Iberian Meseta and Andalusia. From the biological point of view, frequent findings indicate a close association of P. pyrenaeus with nests of solitary hymenoptera (especially Osmia bees), where it behaves as a nest destroyer, feeding on pollen and all sorts of debris found in cells. Anogmus hohenheimensis (Ratzeburg) (Pteromalidae) (cited for the first time in the Iberian Península) is recorded as a parasite of P. pyrenaeus.
