Abstract
OCCASIONALLY one reads of the dollar value of honey bee pollination to commercial agriculture. On a national basis the estimates of the honeybee's worth run from slightly more than one billion to five billion dollars annually. Another way of stating the same principle is that for every dollar invested by growers in honeybee rental, they receive 50 to 100 dollars back in improved crop yield. During a recent study of the pollination requirements of gooseberries (Ribes grossularia L.), we were able to clearly define the economic value of the honey bee to the grower.
