Abstract
The genus Centris includes numerous species of large, robust, fast-flying, pollen-collecting bees, which are largely neotropical in distribution, ranging through South America to the south-western United States and southern Florida. The genus has recently been called Hemisia, but the conservation of the better known and long-established name Centris has now been accepted with the tribal name Centridini (Michener & Moure, 1957).
