Abstract
Recent collections of Hirsutella from insects in the Philippines are discussed. H. formicarum was recorded attacking formicine ants, while H. citriformis was recorded attacking Nilaparvata lugens, the sciomyzid Sepedon sphegea and the psyllid Heteropsylla cubana. Hirsutella strigosa occurred on the cicadellid Nephotettix virescens, and H. versicolor was present on the mango cicadellid Idioscopus clypealis. The mycoparasitic fungus Calcarisporius sp. was found on H. versicolor. H. guyana was found on cicadellids in the Philippine forest and H. jonesii infected Cyrtorhinus lividipennis on rice. The symptoms of infection of Hirsutella spp. on their hosts and the means of the dispersal of H. formicarum and H. jonesii are described.
