Object Story

Drumsticks dating back to the 1860s are crafted from wood and remain in good functional condition. These drumsticks hold a significant military association, having been passed down as a family heirloom from the Civil War era from Levi Clark Axtell, after whom the participant was named. Believed to have belonged to Axtell, a drummer boy during the Civil War, they bear four inscribed symbols on their base, possibly indicating ownership or serving as a count. Professionally handmade, these drumsticks are suspected to be made from ebony and rosewood.
