Object Story
The vase from an artillery shell casing holds emotional value, leaving a lasting impression on relatives. Custom-made by Raymond Lewis Dennison in 1919 during the Army of Occupation in Germany, the vase is crafted from a modified artillery shell casing. It has a stamp on the bottom, stating its historical context. The vase is in good, functional condition and features engravings of iconic American symbols such as the Statue of Liberty and the American flag. The unit association stamped on the vase indicates its connection to the 310th Motor Transportation Corps, Repair Unit, MTF, highlighting its military heritage. Dennison acquired the shell casing while stationed in Koblenz, Germany, where he modified it into a vase and completed the etchings.
