Object Story

Originating from Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia, in the 1950s, these paper photographs hold ties to the Korean War. Acquired through inheritance during the same decade, they bear emotional significance, representing both military service and familial connections. Originally stationed in Pohnpei, they made their way to Castle Valley, Utah, in 2016. The narrator's father, a Navy veteran, served between 1950 and 1953, cherishing deep-sea fishing and learning during his service. Despite his reluctance to discuss wartime experiences, the photographs serve as tangible connections to his past.
