Abstract
A review of current research trends in the control and measurement of the statistical properties of light is given. This review is limited to squeezing, sub-Poisson light, and methods for measuring properties of the resulting stabilized light. Basic descriptions of the statistical properties of light, electronic noise, and behavior are given. The results are used to illustrate how the unique properties of these optical sources and detection techniques may be used to improve the precision of the analytical measurement.
