Abstract
The goal of this project was to design and construct a measuring tool capable of calculating the area of polygon shapes. Being able to accurately estimate area is important for certain career fields such as landscaping and real estate appraising. However, calculating the area of a shape is not always an easy task. The Area Calculator Device utilizes GPS technology for determining position data which is then used to determine area. The electronics used to calculate area were mounted to a distance measuring wheel. It seemed logical that an area calculating system would be convenient to use in conjunction with a perimeter calculating system.
