Engineering Students Construct Award-Winning Dam Model

Dec. 16, 2020 — A team of College of Engineering undergraduates turned idea into reality this semester by building a scale model of their award-winning dam design. A concept for the model was presented late last year at a collegiate design competition organized by the Association of State Dam Safety Officials known as ASDSO.

BE Students Engage With Industry Leaders at Virtual Conference

Nov. 9, 2020 — The Biological Engineering Department hosted its third annual Intermountain Biological Conference on Oct. 30 and 31. This year’s theme was Biological Engineering’s Impact on Public Health. Featured speakers came from industry partners and government agencies. The event was held virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions. For the poster session, students were required to submit a video explaining their research along with a digital poster.

Aggies Help Shield Front-Line Workers

Oct. 16, 2020—Engineering students teamed up with the center for Persons with Disabilities to make face shields. The headband and ear pieces are 3-D printed. The shield portion is an overhead projector transparency sheet. The resulting design is lightweight and comfortable. Students in the Idea Factory used 3-D printers and a computerized router to make the headband portion. In total, the College of Engineering provided 410 face shields.

Out-Computing COVID: How Airborne Droplets Spread Viruses

Oct. 16, 2020 — Researcher Dr. Som Dutta is part of a global team of scientists and engineers harnessing the power of supercomputers to better understand COVID-19. His research addresses a critical gap in our understanding of how virus-laden droplets from human airways mix with indoor. The research is one of 62 projects in the COVID-19 High Performance Computing Consortium.

Engineering Tutoring Center Offers In-Person and Virtual Help

Sept. 10, 2020 — The Engineering Tutor Center is adapting to changing times and offering both face-to-face and virtual tutoring sessions. Tutoring services are free to students, and there is no need to schedule an appointment for remote or in-person tutoring. The center is located in Anderson Engineering 320.

USU Launches NSF-Funded Engineering Research Center for Electrified Transportation

News Release and Media Advisory — Aug. 4, 2020 — The National Science Foundation has awarded Utah State University a five-year, $26 million grant, renewable to 10-year, $50.6 million, to develop an international research center dedicated to advancing sustainable, electrified transportation. The center is expected to raise more than $200 million over the next decade in government and industry support.
