Abstract
Many people have from time to time concerned themselves with the problem of the benefits and detriments that would accrue to the teaching profession if a merit rating system were to be adopted. One of the most notable is a two-part discussion resented by prominent educators in the field of public education in New York. This discussion is aimed at exposing the strengths and weaknesses of merit rating in general and, more specifically, as conducted in their own state.
