Abstract
Iron as an essential element has been known since 1843, when Gris proved its need for the growth and well being of plants. Since then, many investigations have been carried out on various aspects of iron nutrition, leading to the accumulation of a vast literature, a monument to the assiduity of the chemists and the biologists.
