Abstract

In certain plants the expression of various characters depends upon the presence of two pairs of complementary genes in the individual. The striking feature of this situation is that two plants, phenotypically alike or similar but of different and appropriate genetic constitution, may, after crossing, produce progeny which are phenotypically different from either parent.
