Description

The current situation has dramatically changed our educational strategies. Even if these changes were very difficult for both educators and learners, there have been some positive sides to the transition from traditional to online format. Students embraced new technological skills, learned how to take responsibility for their education, and gave them an opportunity to work at their own pace. Regardless of how everything eventually shakes out, educators must be prepared for a smooth transition to online and blended teaching when the need arises, whether by choice or by circumstance. Today, we face the necessity to find new ways to teach, especially in online environments. Teaching online requires us to be technologically savvy, but at the same time, we need to consider the pedagogical implications of using a certain technology with our students since we still want our online classes to be a space for collaboration, creativity, and interaction. There is a great variety of tools that could help in the teaching and learning process. In this session, we will overview two useful instructional technologies. The first presenter will introduce you to EdPuzzle. This is an assessment-centered tool that will give teachers an opportunity to create interactive online videos with different kinds of questions, audio notes, audio tracks, or comments on a video. This tool can be used as one of the options for formative assessment. The second presenter will overview her use of Flipgrid in language classes. Flipgrid is compatible with Canvas and allows instructors and students to create and participate in video discussions. In addition, Fligrid allows students to comment on each other's videos which leads to a more collaborative environment.
