Reimagining 3 Modes of Communication With Flip
Start Date

Description
Pivoting to online and hybrid modes of teaching forced us all to reimagine our approaches. Along with the challenges of remote teaching, powerful technologies such as Flip offered many affordances for developing learner communication skills. This presentation begins with a brief overview of several other existing video discussion/social learning platforms and the pedagogical framework behind them, then focuses on Flip. The second part shows examples of innovative, engaging activities that can be useful in many disciplines in teaching 3 modes of communication: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational. To synthesize, we offer specific suggestions for best practices using Flip (and Canvas integration) to engage students and provide an inclusive platform on which all voices may be heard. Finally, a literature review with annotated resource list on the SoTL related to Flip is provided.
