Description

How do we know what’s true and what’s fake? Why do we believe things that aren’t true? What role does logic play in establishing the difference between knowing and believing? Why is belief such a powerful force, one that can even overpower knowledge? What counts as evidence, reason and argument? And how is asserting a truth different from constructing an evidence-based argument? And finally, how do we determine the trustworthiness of different sources of information? Using case studies to illustrate how and why false beliefs can cause real problems, the faculty panelists will address these and other critically important questions from a diverse range of disciplinary perspectives.
