Abstract

The 7,500-acre Savant Sage Resource Area forms a mountainous backdrop and prominent landscape for the communities of Athol, Belmont and the surrounding areas. The majority of the area was burned by the fires of the late 1800's, and there has been little timber resource management since. During early scoping activities, the public expressed concern for personal use of water resources in the area; the importance of visual resources to both local residents and seasonal visitors to the area; the forest health of the area; and the complexity of the area as a whole.
