Abstract
This project is a transcription of the missionary journal of the first missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Scotland. Alexander Wright arrived in 1839 with his companion, Samuel Mulliner. The journal transcription is broken into five separate chapters. Each has an introduction to introduce themes found in the journal. In addition to the transcription and introductory material, there are annotations and supplemental materials: a map, indexes to people mentioned and places Wright went as well as who he baptized. Themes include smallpox, the rise of the church in Scotland, the challenges faced because of opposition and resistance, administration in the growing church, and general dissent in the country and how dissenters and Church of Scotland parishioners viewed and treated the missionaries for the Latter-day Saints church. Other topics include intrusion, patronage, millenarianism, primitivism, and the gifts of the spirit.

This mission journal is a selection from a whole. It only includes the part of Wright's journal that is in Scotland.
