Abstract
A prismatic folded plate structure is one which is formed by monolithically joining rectangular plates along their edges and stiffening them by transverse diaphragms (17). Due to their high resistance to bending and compression, folded plates can be used for a variety of structures. The most common use is for roof structures, but they are also used for walls and floor systems. Fig. 1 is a typical single-span folded plate roof structure. This structure consists of rectangular plates which form the roof of the structure, two edge beams, two diaphragms at the ends, and four columns. The major span of the structure is between the end supports. The loads applied to the folded plate structure are carried by the inclined plates, then by the diaphragms.
