Abstract
This exhibit analyzes The Secretes of the Reverende Mayster Alexis of Piemount. We discuss the book's construction and historical context, as well as the medicinal, cosmetic, and other various recipes within. The book was translated from French to English by William Ward, a noted physician and translator. The first part was originally published in 1558 and another mass printing was done by Henry Sutton in 1559. The second part of the book was translated by Ward and printed in 1560 and 1563. John Kingston printed our copy of the second part in 1560. Though other parts were published and translated into English, our copy has only parts one and two described above.
