Abstract
I was introduced into the world of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome winter quarter, 1996. My goals for that year included researching this topic in order to understand what it was physically, behaviorally, and on a cognitive level. My assignment involved writing a research paper around those characteristics, along with the development of their speech and language, presenting my findings to my classmates, and competing at the USU Scholar's Day competition in May of 1996. I received 2nd place at this competition. During the summer of that year, I researched FAS more to receive the needed resources to compile an annotated bibliography of 105 resources. My annotated bibliography was completed during spring break, 1997. Fall quarter 1997, I planned out my goals for the direction of my research for this year. I presented my deadlines and goals to the faculty of the COMD De that quarter. Winter quarter, I prepared an inservice for the teachers, parents, and others in the community dealing with intervention strategies for working with these children in three different settings: home, therapy, and the classroom settings. This is the project that I felt the most challenging, yet rewarding, during my honors quest. I had found so much information concerning intervention that I've run out of time during every presentation to give it. I conducted an inservice May 6, 1997 at Adam's Elementary School. I also presented the same inservice, geared a little more toward Speech Pathology, in Ann Eldredge's articulation class on May 29, 1997.
