International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures
The International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures (ISHS) is run by the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR). As its name suggests, this association studies hydro-environmental sciences, and at this symposium, they specifically focus on how this field relates to hydraulic structures like dams, canals, spillways, ship locks, levees, etc. Research is presented on how hydraulic structures influence water flow, produce energy, and prevent flooding as well as on how they interact with the environment, with topics including erosion, fish passages, how these structures affect different types of waterways, etc. Those who attend this symposium can become more aware of the environmental impacts of hydraulic structures and the application of more sustainable development.
