Abstract
The concluding chapter makes the case for ongoing women and leadership research as well as applying research findings to policies, programs, and everyday practices. While there is prolific research documenting the negative impact of inequity, the authors challenge researchers and theorists to push the edges of what is known. They argue that staying current on published research, applying new frameworks and constructs to expand understanding, and grounding discovery in strong theoretical assumptions leads to rigorous and relevant research that informs the path forward to prepare more leaders and provide enriching environments to sustain women’s leadership. To make a lasting impact, the authors call for theory development as well as (1) exploring what motivates women to lead, (2) testing the effectiveness of interventions, policies, and programs, and (3) responding to emerging global events.
