Abstract
- The SAO signatures in the mesospheric OH and O2 temperatures are identified with significant amplitudes of 5-6 K in temperarure, ~9% in intensity (not shown) and apparent periodicity of ~180 ± 7 days.
- The asymmetry in SAO is more pronounced in OH temperatures with the spring peek being larger than the autumnal one by ~8 k which is evident in Cole & Kantor rocket data but not in the SME data.
- TIME-GCM model results show diurnal tides act to suppress the amplitude of the observed SAO for nighttime measurements.
