Abstract

Andes Lidar Observatory (ALO). As part of an instrument suite, the Utah State University (USU) Mesospheric Temperature Mapper (MTM) was deployed at Cerro Pachon, Chile (30°S), in 2009. Multi-instrument measurements of mountain waves (MW) have been obtained on a campaign basis.

Rio Grande Observatory (RGO): a new USU Advanced Temperature Mapper (AMTM) was deployed in Argentina in 2017, together with the DLR CORAL Rayleigh lidar, to complement existing SAAMER radar and optical instruments to study MW signatures over the world largest "hot spot".

In parallel, we report a new measurement capability by the NASA Aeronomy of Ice in the Mesosphere (AIM) satellite, enabling large-field imaging of stratospheric (50-55 km) gravity waves.

This presentation focuses on several identified mesospheric MWs over ALO and RGO, and stratospheric MW measurements by CIPS.
