Abstract
Monogamy is a standard in our society and has been for the last few hundred years. The sexual revolution brought on new ideas about sex and relationships which eventually lead to the relationship style Consensual Non-Monogamy (CNM). Many who live this relationship style are doing so in the shadows and one reason they hide is their children. Some of these parents have lost custody of their children based on their CNM lifestyles alone. There is much stigma about CNM and little research on how these families work. Dr. Eli Sheff has conducted research on CNM families and she’s found several benefits for this familial construct that should not be overlooked. In this study, I will research more about these families and the stigma behind them and if there is any validity to it. I hope the information gathered will open dialogue throughout the nation about the matter.
