Abstract

In this presentation, we will demonstrate how a classical music form, specifically a two-part form, has influenced other modern, popular musical genres. We will briefly present the basic structure of two-part forms and then perform three examples a classical piece, a jazz piece, and a musical theater or pop piece. We will demonstrate the cohesiveness between the three pieces based on their musical structure despite their other differences. In doing so, we will help the public see the similarities and bridge the gaps between "outdated" music and the popular music of today. (Program notes will also be written and distributed about at least one piece.)
