Abstract
Christianity’s earliest centuries were filled with a multitude of efforts toward unity and consistency. Through fervent debate and political maneuvering, competing branches attempted to establish personal legitimacy and a cohesive doctrine. These conflicts brought questions of personhood, mortality, and life to the forefront, alongside the related questions of gender, power, and sexuality. This paper looks to leverage primary sources in the form of medical writings, theological debates, and legal histories in order to bring clarity to the earliest thoughts on abortion and contraception in the earliest Christian communities. Presentation Time: Thursday, 9-10 a.m. Zoom link: https://usu-edu.zoom.us/j/83802262211?pwd=QU5icUo4WW03NWZwNXVPNjlXYXQvUT09
