Abstract

The Victorian era was a period between 1820 and 1914 around the time of Queen Victoria’s reign. It was a time when the population and economy were growing, and Britain was the most powerful empire in the world. During this period, Britain was the cultural capital of the English-speaking world. The culture and art during this time were picturesque, rich, and dramatic. Much of Victorian design consisted of decorative details and rich color combinations.Society has shifted to more modern design with clean lines, neutral color schemes, and minimalistic details. Over the years, we have lost quality and detail. Many homes are built very fast and don’t have much detail to them. As such, many modern homes do not last very long and go out of style quickly. Many of the homes built in the Victorian era are still in use today. They are classic and timeless. People are drawn to them because of their charm and elegance. While some aspects of Victorian homes should be left in the past, there are also aspects that we can learn from and incorporate into modern-day living.
