Description
In aquifers having small saturated thickness, radial collector wells produce less drawdown but cost more than comparable vertical tube well systems. While satisfying constraints on head drawdown and total well discharge, we minimize the total cost of collector well for steady operation cost. If all laterals of a collector well are of equal length, nonlinear optimization determines that least total cost collector wells should have 12 laterals. For different lateral lengths, optimal systems cost 7.89 to 2.06 $M for discharges ranging from 650-300 lit/s respectively.
