Technical Session IV: The Year in Retrospect

Abstract

Exploration of the enigmatic atmosphere of Saturn’s largest moon Titan was the objective of the HUYGENS descent probe, when it successfully landed at 14. January 2005 on the surface of Titan. The system design aspects of this mission and technical approaches are summarized in this contribution. In particular the evolution of the descent control system is outlined. Planned data are compared to measured performance data in Titan’s atmosphere.
