1. The Challenge
- Solar weather is constantly changing with adverse effects on earth and the space around it
- Solar flares cause communication blackouts
- Coronal mass ejections can damage satellite hardware, and cause geomagnetic induced currents that can damage the power grid
- Difficult to measure these effects in real-time
