Point of Discovery/Informant Bio
I was born in 1997 (20 years old) in Kalamunda, Western Australia, Australia. I moved to Melbourne, Australia when I was ten years old. I now live in Logan, Utah, USA. I attend Utah State University and I play on the USU Women's Basketball Team. I have been playing basketball for ten years. I have many superstitions when it comes to basketball.
Context
I collected the folklore in Logan, Utah but I have been doing this for many years. The folklore was not collected at the time or place that it would usually happen. In context, the folklore happens before a basketball game when I am getting dressed to play. I would most likely be surrounded by my teammates but they wouldn't take notice of what is happening.
Text
Before basketball games when I get ready and put my uniform on... when I get to my
shoes I HAVE to put my left sock on before my right and then my left shoe before my
right shoe, BUT... Both my socks have to on before I move on to the shoes. I'm not
sure how his became a thing?--- I think maybe I did it one day and played really
well so I decided I have to do it all the time.
Texture
I am a little apprehensive to share my superstitions because some people may think they're weird. I feel like lots of people have weird superstitions though so it's okay.
