Abstract
The purpose of this investigation is to provide insight into the obstacles to reform in science education. Through qualitative methods, this study analyzes the teacher/participants’ questions emerging daily during a summer professional development workshop designed to promote learner centered directions in science instruction. Results of the study reveal that teachers were less concerned with external pressures such as imposed accountability from community leaders, administrators, and parents, and more concerned with understanding what inquiry would look like in the classroom.
