Abstract
Utah's commercial apple industry had its beginning when apple production was rapidly expanding in the west and throughout the United states. The increase in price of apples from 1896 to 1910 stimulated commercial apple production in this state which, up to 1905, produced apples principally for local consumption, the family orchard supplying the local trade and home use. According to the data secured from the survey herein reported, the major part of the commercial apple trees standing in 1926, in Utah, were planted during the period from 1906 to 1915. In 1910, 60 per cent of the total trees in Utah, and 55 per cent of the total for the western states, were not of bearing age.
