Abstract
Microbial assays of dissolved oxygen (DO) uptake and resazurin reduction (RR) assays were compared with regard to applicability for hazard assessment schemes and determination of bioactive residues in soil and biota. The DO method is simpler and less expensive, but is less sensitive and more variable than the RR method. Both gave highly comparable results with pure or mixed cultures of microbes.
