Abstract
Although thousands of unidentified specimens of the genus Paratiphia have been accumulating in collections since the latter part of the nineteenth century very little has been done in the matter of identification until recent years. Between 1893 and 1907, Peter Cameron described a number of species. His descriptions were inadequate for species identification, and apparently the types deposited at the British Museum (N.H.) were not critically studied until the author examined them in 1961 and again in 1966. Concurrently with the study in England of holotypes and the very limited series of associated allotypes and paratypes, the author has received loans of several thousands of unidentified specimens from North American collections without which it would not have been possible to prepare this monographic study.
