Abstract
The solitary or colonial Euglossini (Apidae) are important pollinators of many planes of low and middle elevation, neotropical forests. The bees are wary, rapid fliers, and capable of flying long distances. The tribe is perhaps best known for the fragrance-colleaing activities of males, particularly at orchid flowers (e.g., Dressler 1968, Dodson et al . 1969, Ackerman 19836). The volatile compounds may be utilized as precursors to sex pheromones (Williams and Whitten 1983).
