Abstract

Studies were conducted on management of Epis cerana F. colonies including reduction of space in the brood chamber during honey flow and feeding supplemental diet to bees in dearth period. Reduction of bee space in brood chamber resulted in higher honey yield (6.3-9.7kg) then that control (2.3-4.6kg) per colony. Six kg supplemental diet particularly plain candy fed to bees from mid-winter to early spring built up the colony population and produced 4.4 times more honey yeild in spring (10.3kg) than that in control colonies (2.3kg). Honeybee flora was scarce in Islamabad and Rawalpindi in June. Feed sucrose and musk melon extract resulted in supersedure cell production and fairly good increase in bee strength for the next honey flow.
