Abstract
Megachile flavipes and M. nana are potential pollinators of alfalfa, Medicago setiva (Kapil and Jain, 1980; Sihag, 1983, Abrol, 1986a). The foraging range of bees depend upon their energy requirements, yet determined also by the quantity of reserve fuel carried when in flight. The smaller bees with relatively low energy requirements and little reserve fuel may hardly risk foraging long distances (Abrol, 1985 ). The pollinating effectiveness of bees can be assessed by determining their optimum foraging ranges (Dhaliwal and Sharma, 1974; Ptacek, 1982; Abrol 1985, 1986, b and c). This paper reports on the foraging range of M. flavipes and M. nana so as to establish their pollinating effectiveness .
