Abstract

Activity time budgets of Apis cerana indica workers were recorded on Daucus carota L. (UmbelliFerae), Heilanthus anrrus L. (Compositae); Cucumis melo L. (Cucurbitaceae) and Brassica oleracea L. (Cruciferae). In general, time spent in foraging varied from one day to another and crop to crop. On an average, A. c. lndica workers foraged from a minimum· of 477.50 minutes per day (C. melo) to a maximum of 522.50 minutes per day (B. oleracea), the other crops being intermediate between the two. The pollinating efficiency as determined by the flower visitation rate was in the order: H. unnus>D. carota>B. oleracea> C. melo. The results suggested that A. c. indica was a potential pollinator of these crops.
