Abstract

The systematization in its variations of the very strongly varying Pleucopygos, a characteristic inhabitant of Turkestan has been unattainable until recently, since the author did not make clear what forms he considered fundamental; and to judge by his descriptions1 he had in his possession varicolored specimens of this species. Thanks to the kindness of Professor G. A. Kojevnikov, I have had the opportunity of examining types of B. leucopygos, preserved in the Zoological Museum of the University of Moscow. The first (foremost) specimen, well labeled autographically (literally supplied with many autographical labels) with the name of the species, I take as fundamental form. I have examined the arrangement of the below varieties in connection with geographical data and the elevation of the locality, which examination while premature yet may permit one to expect results in this direction in the future.
