Abstract

This species was described in 1875 by F. Morawitz¹⁾ from a specimen caught near Samarkand by A. P. Fedtschenko at the time of the latter's (well) known journey through Turkestan. From that time on, the studies during almost forty years, including the special excursion and expeditions undertaken in Turkestan for the past decade, have not yielded a single bumblebee that correspondes to the description given by F. Morawitz, a fact which, naturally, could not fail to cause perplexity.
