Abstract
Salt glands are an adaptation for living in saline habitats possessed by several species of plants. In the family of Plumbaginaceae at least three mangrove genera, Aegialitis, Aegiceras, and Avicennia, possess salt glands according to Scholander (1962). Salt glands of the small ornamental shrubs, Statice gmelini, and Limonium latifoluim of the same family, were studied by Ruhland (1915) and Arisz (1955). Spartina townsendii of the Graminaceae and Tamarix petandra, Tamarix hispida, and Tamarix aphylla of the Tamaricaceae families also have the glands.
